Antara Gange (also known as Anthargange) is a mountain situated in the Shathashrunga mountain range in the southeastern portion of the Indian state of Karnataka, Kolar district. Antara Gange means "Ganges from deep" in Kannada. It is about two miles from Kolar and seventy kilometers from Bangalore. Antara Gange is famous for Sri Kashi Vishweshwara temple, also known as Kashi of South. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the temple is a pond that continuously flows underground water from the mouth of a Basava (stone bull). Drinking water from the pond is believed to cleanse one from many diseases. 

Also, this is one of the notable trekking places near bangalore, which can be visited during the day and at night. Undertaking a trek on the trail up the hill on a night of full moon is one of the adventurous things that you can do at Anthargange. At the top of the mountain, the display of natural beauty around you will be an enchantment to cherish!

The way to Antar Gange caves is a steep and narrow path behind the temple to the top of the mountain. (Now, the entry to the caves is restricted) The caves are 3-4 km from the temple. There are seven villages on this mountain, including Therhalli. The mountain consists of granite rocks and a lot of caves around. Trekking in and around caves is popular here. Tourists also do night trekking and camping here, especially in summer. 

ANTHARGANGE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • If you want to take a break from the chaotic life of Bangalore city, and if you are craving some adventure, this is the spot! Situated about 80 km away from Bangalore, Anthargange is well known for its Natural Volcanic Rock Formation. 

  • Anthargange is about 4 km from Kolar, a small town once well known for its gold mines. It is a religious spot and a mesmerizing scenic area filled with adventurous caves, in two words – Caves & Temples. The hill range is about 4021 ft high. It's one of the pilgrimage sites that will enlighten you with the vibes. The temple is sacred and has a water pool that originates in the spring. “Antharganga” means ‘innerspring’. It will take you almost one hour from the temple to reach the peak. One must be very careful around the monkeys in this area and avoid carrying food packets. 

  • Sri Kashi Vishweshara Temple is one of the most important sites and got its sobriquet "Kashi of South." It's not just the caves that are capturing but also the dense forests and peaks that will surely get one's adrenaline rushing, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The temple here is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Seven villages reside on this mountain range. One of the most coveted views is the sunrise from the peak. You should experience this enigmatic sight. 

  • This Ganges from the Deep is a place for devotees and adventurists alike! One must seek the guidance of a certified nature guide here to navigate and explore better. These guides are locals who are trained to help tourists. The best time to visit is from October to March. You don't have any lodging facilities nearby. It's a one-day trip from Bangalore. These volcanic boulders are going to leave you spellbound and satisfied. 

  • The journey through this Shathashrunga range is pure bliss. Make sure you leave early from Bangalore to make the most of the journey. Awaken the caveman in you! 

BEST TIME TO VISIT :

The best time to visit Anthargange is between April and June and between November and March. During this time, the weather is quite pleasant, and the atmosphere turns into a lovely display of ambient colours. From July to October, the hilltop witnesses the rainy season, which must be avoided when visiting Anthargange.

TIPS FOR VISITING ANTHARGANGE:

  1. The monsoon season is not one of the best times to visit Anthargange. The wet roads and slippery trails make it very tiresome and difficult to stay afoot, and the terrain can be a major problem to traverse.

  2. Always carry enough water with you to avoid incidents of dehydration.

  3. Ensure you wear comfortable clothes and footwear to avoid unease.

  4. Since the trail is long, ensure you are physically fit to undertake the trek. Exercising and stretching activities a few days before the trek might be helpful.

  5. For a night trek, make sure that you are equipped with adequate torches and batteries, which will be very useful.

HOW TO REACH: 

You can reach Anthargange in Karnataka by air, road, or rail:  

  • By air: Fly to Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bangalore, then take a taxi or motorbike to Anthargange via Kolar  

  • By road: Drive from Bangalore to Anthargange or hire a cab. The roads are well-maintained, and the drive is scenic.  

  • By rail: Take a train to Kolar Railway Station, 3 kilometers from Anthargange. You can walk or hire local transport to get to Anthargange from the station.  

Anthargange is a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. It has volcanic rock formations, ancient caves, and natural springs. Some recommend visiting during the cooler months of October to March.
