Avani Betta is often associated with Sita, wife of Lord Rama, one of the main characters in the Hindu epic,  Ramayana. Local legends hold that Sita spent time here after her abduction by Ravana. According to myth, Sita is said to have done penance here, and it is also believed that Lord Rama came here on his mission to save her.  It is believed that Sita had worshipped Lord Shiva at Avani Betta. Mythological events connected with  this  place  have made the site sacred. Ancient Ramanathaswamy Temple At the bottom of the hill, an ancient Ramanathaswamy Temple stands, dedicated to Lord Shiva as Ramanathaswamy. It is considered one of the sacred sites where Lord Rama performed rituals to honour Lord Shiva in his exile, as told in the Ramayana. 

This temple complex also consists of a huge Shiva Linga and many other shrines related to various godly figures,  such as Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana. BEST TIME TO VISIT : 

The best time to see Avani Betta is from April to June and from November to March. In these months, the  atmosphere has turned into a colorful spread of ambient colors, and the weather is pretty lovely. From July to October, this hilltop experiences the rainy season, and that should be avoided during your visit to Avani Betta. 

TIPS FOR VISITING AVANI BETTA : 

  • The monsoon season will not be the right time to visit Avani Betta. The trails could be extremely tiresome and challenging to stay on your feet while crossing due to the vital wetness of the roads, and the terrain  could be pretty troublesome to cross over.

Avani Betta is about 80 km from Bangalore, about 12 km from Chikkaballapur, and about 15 km from Nandi Hills.  Roads are well connected; therefore, buses, private taxis, or even private vehicles can quickly climb to the foot of the hill. 

The nearest railway station from Avani Betta is Chikkaballapur Railway Station , which is about 12 km away.  After this, the options to proceed include using a taxi or a local bus to get down to the base of the hill. 

The nearest airport is located at Kempegowda International Airport, which is approximately 70 km away from Avani Betta. Hiring a taxi or the other public transport available from the airport would take you up the hill.
