DEVARAYANADURGA HIGHLIGHTS:

  • This hill station has been named after two temples at the top of the hill, dedicated to Lord Narasimha and Lord Yoga Narasimha. According to local legend, Vijayanagara king Devaraja Wodeyar was hunting in this  region  when  he chanced upon a sacred spring. The spring was believed to be  healing in nature, so the king built a small shrine around it. Over time, this hill station has become a very popular  shrine, and it is now the  center for spiritual and religious activities.

  • Devarayanadurga is one of the most visited places by trekkers. There are several trekking trails of various degrees of difficulty in this hill station , suitable for both novice and experienced trekkers. It's a  hard climb up the top, but it's worth it as you have the panoramic views of the hills and valleys surrounding it. Roads link the temples , and tourists can drive up to the top of the hill in their vehicles.

  • The Yoga Narasimha temple is situated on top of the hill, and one of the temples is dedicated to God Narasimha and Lakshmi; one can take a vehicle up to this temple and walk a few stairs to get to Darshan. Bhoga Narasimha Temple is a Narasimha temple , one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and is more than 1000 years old, situated at the foothills of Devarayanadurga.

  • Devarayanadurga is the land of rich cultural heritage abode, which has some important temples and historical monuments rooted in Hindu mythology and tradition. Many festivals are celebrated  throughout the year. Bhoga Narasimha Temple's annual festival , Brahmotsava, is there.

  • On occasion, lights in the temple were  illuminated,  and cultural programs were held in the form of dances, music, and drama. Devarayanadurga is a place that can be visited all year round. The summer and the rainy season, temperature-wise, are very pleasing; however, the ideal period to visit Devarayanadurga would be  between the months of the winter season, from November to February. The climate in that period is cool and foggy around the mountains, giving it a magical view.

Panthers, leopards, and bears are some of the wild animals that can be spotted easily strolling in the forests. The dense forest is also home to a number of birds, including Honey Buzzards, White-backed Vultures, Pariah Kites, Eagles, Owls, and Little Grebe. A variety of snakes and lizards are also inhabitants of Devarayanadurga. They were built nearly 2000 years ago. The architecture of the place is highly marvelous in its Dravidian style.
