Things To Do Near Kanva Dam

Things To Do Near Kanva Dam Overview

Kanva Dam creates a serene, picturesque landscape for anyone trying to escape the chaos of city life. Though not very commercially developed or famous compared to some of the more giant dams and tourist sites in Karnataka, the place has many attractions for nature lovers and peace seekers who enjoy activities outdoors.

The Kanva Dam is built in a scenic venue with rolling hills and greeneries and is thus a fantastic shoot location. The  surrounding beauty, especially that of the reservoir of forests and hills, can be particularly well seen in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun's light is soft and golden. The reservoir's serene water body and landscape make it a very suitable opportunity for  landscape and nature photography.

The surroundings are  quiet, allowing for a serene and relaxing experience of a leisurely picnic near the dam.  It is a  popular location for the family and for small groups of friends to spend the day there with their meal and a taste for nature. Bare-bone sitting facilities are available, and the immediate environment is decent and relatively clean;  always bring  the essentials: water, snacks, and a mat.

Although not as highly developed as   other dams regarding water activities, boating is perhaps one of the most basic pastimes wherein tourists may engage at Kanva Dam. The waters of the reservoir are calm and so ideal for boating. Still, options could be very limited or basic compared to more prominent tourist destinations.  Sometimes, small boat rides or pedal boats are given for the tourists to experience a relaxed feel in touring the reservoir.

Bird species are found in the surrounding area with various ornithological species through the migratory season.  It would be an excellent spot for a birder since numerous waterfowl and other species can be watched around the reservoir. Birdwatching is best during the early morning and late afternoon hours for birds when they are most active and are, therefore , the more excellent times of the day. The sceneries surrounding this dam are suitable for short walks and nature treks. Try the hillside, walk along the reservoir, or climb little hills  to enhance  your  panoramic vision of the surrounding areas. Since there are no well-trodden paths for trekking, the landscape  remains open to those who enjoy open space and unstructured outdoor activities.

Kanva Dam is perfect for those in search of peace. The place is not so commercialized, so you won't find so many people around, making it a relatively serene atmosphere where one may meditate, read, or enjoy quiet time near the water. Although not promoted or regulated much, some locals or tourists like angling in the Kanva reservoir. If you are an angler, it is worth asking the locals to see if this can be done or allowed when you visit.

KANVA DAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The dam has a stunning landscape with rolling hills, lush greenery, and the serene waters of the reservoir.

  •  In the context of most commercialized tourist destinations, this Kanva Dam is a peaceful and silent retreat  and an ideal place to unwind.

  • this reservoir's water is suitable for cruising in pleasure craft. Options are , however, not as varied here  compared to large reservoirs.

  • Pedal boats have some local operators with an opportunity to explore the reservoir.

  • Bird species increase near the dam during the migratory season. Birdwatchers can spot some waterfowl, raptors, and other local bird species.

  • The hilly and forested background offers an opportunity for a nature walk through the reservoir.

  • It is a perfect location for photography, picnics, or strolling in peaceful surroundings.

  • Not promoted much but some visitors enjoy fishing from the dam reservoir. This is an alternative for  those who love fishing in a natural and peaceful environment.

GOOD TIME TO VISIT:

October to March is perhaps the most fantastic time of the year to visit Kanva Dam. A pleasant climate  prevails  as the sun shines warm during the day, and cool temperatures between 15°C and 30°C prevail throughout this period, which is ideal for boating, nature walks , and trekking. Even a carefree picnic or a quiet retreat by the reservoir can be enjoyed during such a cool climate.

The monsoon season between June and September brings lush greenery to the area, making it slippery due to heavy rainfall.

The summer between April and June can be hotter, with temperatures sometimes above 35°C, making outdoor explorations very uncomfortable.

TIPS TO VISIT:

  • Plan your visit between October and March when the weather has cooled up and will be more comfortable for any outdoor activity like trekking, boating, and picnicking.

  • Facilities nearby are less at the dam site; thus take sufficient water and snacks along with all other requirements for the whole day if you are there to stay for a couple of hours more.

  • As you  walk around the site, you would want to wear comfortable shoes and light-loosening clothing.

  • If you are planning trekking or hiking proper footwear would be advisable.

  • Even when it is not hot in summer, the sun can also be harsh ; hence , make sure to carry sunscreen, a hat, and glasses with you if you intend to spend time out in the open

  • Do not litter and dispose of your waste correctly so that you will not ruin the natural beauty of the dam and its surroundings.

  • Winter can be unpredictable, too. Scan the weather forecast before your trip to avoidance or rainy weather days if you have planned to trek or ride a boat.

HOW TO GET THERE:

One can take a KSRTC bus from Bangalore to Ramanagara or Kanva. To reach the dam, you may hire a local taxi/ auto rickshaw from Ramanagara.

Ramanagara Railway Station is the nearest to Kanva Dam. The distance between the railway station and the dam is approximately 15 km. From Ramanagara, take a taxi or an auto-rickshaw to the dam.

Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is approximately 40 km from Bangalore city centre. You can easily reach  it by a taxi, ride-hailing service, or private vehicle.
