Fairy Falls

Fairy Falls is a 30-foot (9-meter) high waterfall cascading down moss-covered rocks, creating a delicate, almost ethereal sight. The water flows gently over the stones, and in the monsoon season, it becomes a roar of cascading waters to add to the visual drama of the falls. The location is surrounded by a thick forest, which adds more natural charm to this location and allows the perfect natural setting for photography and nature walks. It is fed by water from various streams surrounding the hills within the area, which flows down into the waterfall to form it. During the monsoon months from June to September, it is best visited by all those who love to see the falls as they flow full from their lush and green settings all around. However, even during the post-monsoon period, the falls are gentle in their flow with the weather also pleasant for hiking and picnicking. 

What makes Fairy Falls incredibly different from other heavenly waterfalls of Coorg is that this one is more peaceful and falls amidst a coffee estate. The forest area of this place is affluent in biodiversity; here, one can spot many species of birds, butterflies, and local flora. Visitors are treated to the soothing sounds of water, rustling leaves due to the wind , and coffee blooms fragrances in the air.  What characterizes a visit to Fairy Falls is the trek one has to undertake to reach the falls. The trail begins from a car park close to the falls, along a passage that winds through coffee plantations and into a very dense forest. Far from particularly taxing, the trek is accessible to most people while also opening them up to a grand opportunity for exploring this rich landscape of Coorg. While walking, experience the natural view around you, with chirping birds, rustling leaves, and the fragrance of coffee plantations.

It is vast because of the surrounding area, where there are many places to spread a mat, relax, and enjoy your time in the laps of nature. 

There is a wide range of wildlife, including  in the dense forests surrounding Fairy Fallsvarious species of birds and butterflies and many small creatures in the dens full of biodiversity; therefore, all nature enthusiasts interested in seeing an Indian peafowl, drongo, and other species of woodpeckers will have a particular interest there. Birds can be more active during early mornings and late afternoons.  Besides the birds, there are other animals such as monkeys and macaques, besides many species of reptiles. Rich plant species , such as coffee plants, also exist, making it an excellent nature lover's paradise. 

Visitation to Fairy Falls should be done during the monsoon time when the water flow reaches its highest and when the landscape is at its best because it is all lush and green. Of course, a price has to be paid for such heavy rainfall-a slippery pathway and unforgiving weather, and therefore , visitors are advised to exercise caution.  There's another perfect season to visit during the post-monsoon season, from October to February, when the climate is cool and pleasant. The flow may not be so strong as during the monsoons, but still, it's a fantastic view, and the weather could be for trekking or photography. 

Fairy Falls is one of the quietest and prettiest waterfalls located in Coorg. If you are willing to trek through coffee plantations, take good snaps, have a calm picnic time, or enjoy nature, then Fairy Falls is the best place to be. 1. Abbey Falls (10 km from Madikeri): Stretched amidst coffee estates, Abbey Falls is one of Coorg's most visited places. The waterfall falls from a height of 70 feet.  A scenic view of the waterfall offers a feeling and look at the falls if visitors cross the hanging bridge nearby. 

2. Raja's Seat (5 km from Madikeri): Raja's Seat is visited for its breathtaking sunsets A splendid viewpoint with a broad panoramic view of the Coorg hills and valleys. The place has very well-kept gardens along with a musical fountain too. 

3. Omkareshwara Temple (5 km from Madikeri): This temple has Islamic as well as Hindu architectural styles. It is beside a small pond, giving visitors a peaceful and sacred feeling . 

4. Talakaveri (40 km from Madikeri): This is revered as a sacred site and the origin of the Cauvery River. Brahmagiri hills have this place surrounded by a Lord Shiva temple here. Treks to this region are marvellous. 

5. Dubare Elephant Camp (30 km from Madikeri): Dubare Elephant Camp is located on the banks of the Kaveri River. It's a famous place to interact with elephants, feed them, and get an idea about their training. It's fun for all the people who love animals. 

6. TIruppu Falls (60 km from Madikeri): A beautiful waterfall in Brahmagiri Hills, Iruppu Falls is a serene destination for trekking activities.  

HOW TO REACH: 

• By Bus: Located about 5 km from the main town of Coorg, Madikeri, the Fairy Falls are easily accessible by buses from Coorg. You can hire a taxi or drive from Madikeri to the falls. 

• By Air: The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport, which lies about 150 km from Coorg. There are numerous flights from the airport to cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai. You hire a taxi from the airport to reach Madikeri, and from there, you can head to Fairy Falls. 

• By Train: The nearest central railway station is Mysore , which is  120 km from the destination. Taxis or bus hire will make it possible to reach Madikeri from Mysore. From there you can hire local transport to reach Fairy Falls.
