Ghati Subramanya

Ghati Subramanya it is said that Ghati Subramanya Temple has some association with the early legend of life in Kartikeya. From this myth, it is claimed that while searching for shelter in his childhood, Lord Subramanya also found shelter in this location and again after looking for asylum in Ghati Hills. According to legend, this was even built as a shrine or memorial to Lord Subramanya after he killed the Asura, Tarakasura. The association of the temple with the serpent is also of particular interest. Lord Subramanya is often represented with a serpent or Vasuki, the king of serpents, symbolizing his authority to overcome evil and achieve peace for his devotees. The temple is respected as a place where people do prayers to protect themselves against the effects of Naga Dosha (serpent afflictions) and to ward off other life's difficult situations.

Ghati Subramanya

The temple is made of granite stones, and because of the onslaught of heavy rains over so many decades, it looks like it's a structure that has existed for thousands of years. When one enters the temple, one is greeted by the gateway tower called Raya Gopura, one of the characteristic architectural designs of the typical Dravidian temples. Here, scallops and carvings of various gods and other fables are on the entrance gateway. Inside the temple, there lies a sanctum called garbhagriha, in which the chief deity, Lord Subramanya, sits. The god is depicted here in an unusual form because, besides traditional attributes like Spear Vel, he is also identified by a serpent coiled around him. The temple is highly renowned for serpent iconography. Serpent idols are arranged everywhere around the sanctum and temple premises, and Lord Subramanya is often closely related to serpents. There are mini sanctums of other gods, like Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu, where devotees can obey them.
