At Escape2explore, we’re committed to providing a memorable and safe trekking experience in the majestic Himalayas. The terrain and weather in the Himalayas can be unpredictable, so please follow these essential do’s and don’ts to ensure a successful and enjoyable trek.
Do’s:
Listen to Your Guide: Our professional guides are experts in Himalayan trekking. Always follow their instructions and trust their judgment, especially in tricky or high-altitude areas.
Acclimatize Properly: The Himalayas mean high altitudes, which require proper acclimatization. We’ll ensure a gradual ascent, but it’s crucial to take things slow and follow the itinerary to avoid altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water and rest when needed.
Wear the Right Gear: The Himalayas can be cold, even in summer. Wear layered clothing, including thermal wear, waterproof jackets, and sturdy, insulated trekking boots with good grip. Bring a hat and gloves to protect yourself from cold winds.
Hydrate and Eat Well: Dehydration happens faster at high altitudes. Keep sipping water throughout the trek and eat enough food to maintain your energy. Our team will provide regular breaks to recharge.
Use Trekking Poles: Himalayan trails can be steep and uneven, so using trekking poles can greatly reduce the strain on your knees and help you maintain balance.
Respect Local Culture: The Himalayan region is home to diverse local communities with rich cultural traditions. Respect the customs, interact politely with locals, and follow any guidelines provided by your guide.
Carry Essential Items: Bring items like sunscreen (even in the snow!), lip balm, sunglasses, and a first-aid kit with altitude sickness medication. It’s better to be prepared for the high-altitude sun and cold winds
Be Environmentally Conscious: The Himalayas are pristine and need our care. Follow the ‘Leave No Trace’ policy by carrying back all waste, respecting wildlife, and leaving nature undisturbed.
Don’ts:
Don’t Ignore Altitude Sickness Symptoms: If you feel dizzy, have headaches, or feel nauseous, inform your guide immediately. Ignoring these signs can lead to serious health issues. We can adjust the pace or descent if needed.
Don’t Rush or Overexert Yourself: The key to trekking in the Himalayas is steady progress. Don’t rush ahead, as it can strain your body at high altitudes. Take breaks when needed and walk at a pace that’s comfortable for you.
Don’t Pack Unnecessary Items: Light backpacks make for easier treks. We’ll help you with a packing list, so don’t bring heavy or non-essential items that will weigh you down on steep climbs.
Avoid Trekking in Dangerous Weather: The Himalayan weather can change rapidly. We monitor conditions closely, but if your guide suggests delaying the trek due to rain, snow, or windstorms, trust their decision.
Don’t Wander Off Alone: The vast Himalayan landscape can be disorienting. Always stick with the group, and let your guide know if you need to stop or take a break. Avoid exploring unfamiliar areas on your own.
Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Consuming alcohol or smoking can worsen the effects of altitude sickness and lower your stamina. It’s best to avoid them before and during the trek for your safety and well-being.
Don’t Harm the Environment: Avoid littering or causing damage to the natural surroundings. The Himalayas are fragile, so we ask you to be mindful and carry back any waste to designated disposal areas.

The Devalsari Trek is a scenic trail in Uttarakhand, nestled in the Tehri Garhwal region. It’s known for its peaceful forest paths, rich biodiversity, and views of the Garhwal Himalayas. Unlike more commercial treks, this one is perfect for nature lovers looking for quiet, birdwatching opportunities, and cultural experiences in a remote Himalayan village setting.
The trek is around 8–10 km one way, taking about 5–6 hours to reach Nag Tibba base. It’s an easy to moderate-level trek, ideal for beginners and families. With gradual ascents, thick oak and rhododendron forests, and panoramic views, it's perfect for those seeking adventure without too much strain.
Yes, absolutely. The trek’s gentle terrain and short distance make it a great choice for kids and family groups. Plus, the serene surroundings, local flora and fauna, and village culture offer more than just trekking—there’s a learning and bonding experience in every step, without the chaos of a crowded tourist spot.
The best time to visit is from March to June and September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant, the skies are clear, and the forest is alive with greenery and birdsong. Avoid the monsoon due to slippery trails and landslides. Winters can be cold but magical with snow-draped paths.
The Devalsari region is rich in biodiversity. You may spot Himalayan langurs, barking deer, porcupines, and a variety of birds like barbets, woodpeckers, and even eagles. The area is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 150 species recorded. Keep your binoculars ready—you never know what might flutter by!
Mobile connectivity becomes patchy once you enter the deeper forest trail. Some network signals may be available in the base village, but it's best to inform your loved ones in advance. This is actually a great excuse to unplug and enjoy nature without distractions for a while.
Carry light but essential gear—comfortable trekking shoes, warm layers (especially if visiting in colder months), water bottle, torch, rain jacket, basic medicines, and energy snacks. Don’t forget a power bank and a camera—you’ll want to capture the stunning views and forest beauty along the way!
Yes! Devalsari village offers a peek into Garhwali traditions. You can interact with locals, explore traditional houses, and even taste local cuisine. If your visit aligns with a local festival, you might get to witness vibrant celebrations, folk songs, and dance. It’s a wonderful blend of nature and local life.
The base village, Devalsari, is about 55 km from Mussoorie. The nearest railway station is in Dehradun, from where you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach the village. Roads are accessible most of the year, making it a convenient weekend getaway from major cities in Uttarakhand.
Yes, camping is a key highlight! You can pitch tents near the meadows or at designated campsites along the trail. Waking up to misty mountains, chirping birds, and fresh air is an experience to cherish. Do carry eco-friendly gear and follow Leave No Trace principles to protect the area.
You’ll usually get simple, wholesome vegetarian meals—think rice, chapati, dal, and seasonal vegetables. Some packages may include local dishes like “Mandua roti” or “Jhangora kheer.” It's nutritious, comforting food that keeps your energy up during the trek. Inform in advance if you have specific dietary requirements.
Yes, you can join the trek to Devalsari Trek. The trip’s difficulty level is moderate and can be attained without someone’s support. Wear robust footwear, and comfortable clothes, and maintain basic fitness to complete the trek.
