At Escape2explore, we’re committed to providing a memorable and safe trekking experience in the majestic Himalayas. The terrain and weather in the Himalayas can be unpredictable, so please follow these essential do’s and don’ts to ensure a successful and enjoyable trek.
Do’s:
Listen to Your Guide: Our professional guides are experts in Himalayan trekking. Always follow their instructions and trust their judgment, especially in tricky or high-altitude areas.
Acclimatize Properly: The Himalayas mean high altitudes, which require proper acclimatization. We’ll ensure a gradual ascent, but it’s crucial to take things slow and follow the itinerary to avoid altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water and rest when needed.
Wear the Right Gear: The Himalayas can be cold, even in summer. Wear layered clothing, including thermal wear, waterproof jackets, and sturdy, insulated trekking boots with good grip. Bring a hat and gloves to protect yourself from cold winds.
Hydrate and Eat Well: Dehydration happens faster at high altitudes. Keep sipping water throughout the trek and eat enough food to maintain your energy. Our team will provide regular breaks to recharge.
Use Trekking Poles: Himalayan trails can be steep and uneven, so using trekking poles can greatly reduce the strain on your knees and help you maintain balance.
Respect Local Culture: The Himalayan region is home to diverse local communities with rich cultural traditions. Respect the customs, interact politely with locals, and follow any guidelines provided by your guide.
Carry Essential Items: Bring items like sunscreen (even in the snow!), lip balm, sunglasses, and a first-aid kit with altitude sickness medication. It’s better to be prepared for the high-altitude sun and cold winds
Be Environmentally Conscious: The Himalayas are pristine and need our care. Follow the ‘Leave No Trace’ policy by carrying back all waste, respecting wildlife, and leaving nature undisturbed.
Don’ts:
Don’t Ignore Altitude Sickness Symptoms: If you feel dizzy, have headaches, or feel nauseous, inform your guide immediately. Ignoring these signs can lead to serious health issues. We can adjust the pace or descent if needed.
Don’t Rush or Overexert Yourself: The key to trekking in the Himalayas is steady progress. Don’t rush ahead, as it can strain your body at high altitudes. Take breaks when needed and walk at a pace that’s comfortable for you.
Don’t Pack Unnecessary Items: Light backpacks make for easier treks. We’ll help you with a packing list, so don’t bring heavy or non-essential items that will weigh you down on steep climbs.
Avoid Trekking in Dangerous Weather: The Himalayan weather can change rapidly. We monitor conditions closely, but if your guide suggests delaying the trek due to rain, snow, or windstorms, trust their decision.
Don’t Wander Off Alone: The vast Himalayan landscape can be disorienting. Always stick with the group, and let your guide know if you need to stop or take a break. Avoid exploring unfamiliar areas on your own.
Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Consuming alcohol or smoking can worsen the effects of altitude sickness and lower your stamina. It’s best to avoid them before and during the trek for your safety and well-being.
Don’t Harm the Environment: Avoid littering or causing damage to the natural surroundings. The Himalayas are fragile, so we ask you to be mindful and carry back any waste to designated disposal areas.

The Nanda Ghunti Peak Expedition is a high-altitude Himalayan trek leading to the summit of Nanda Ghunti (6,309 meters) in Uttarakhand. It’s ideal for seasoned trekkers who crave a mix of adventure, technical climbing, and stunning alpine views. The trail offers glaciers, rocky ridges, and snow-covered routes, making it a challenging yet rewarding expedition.
Yes, prior mountaineering or high-altitude trekking experience is essential. Nanda Ghunti is not a beginner-friendly peak; the terrain includes steep snowfields, icy slopes, and crevasse zones. Familiarity with gear like crampons, ice axes, and ropework is highly recommended. This ensures both your safety and your ability to adapt to the demanding environment.
The ideal months for the Nanda Ghunti Peak Expedition are May to June and September to October. These windows offer clearer skies, stable weather, and safer snow conditions. Monsoons and winters bring heavy snowfall and unpredictable weather, which can hinder movement and visibility on high-altitude routes.
The Nanda Ghunti expedition typically takes 18 to 21 days, including acclimatization days and buffer days for summit attempts. The trek begins from Lohajung, moving through Didna, Bedni Bugyal, Bhagwabasa, and finally toward Base Camp before summit push. It's essential to pace the trek properly for acclimatization and safety.
Trekkers should have excellent cardiovascular endurance, strength, and stamina. This includes being able to walk 6–8 hours daily on steep inclines carrying a daypack. Pre-expedition prep should include hiking, running, strength training, and altitude training if possible. Strong fitness reduces risks of altitude sickness and improves your overall experience.
Mobile networks are generally available only till Lohajung or Didna. Once you ascend further, there will be no signal throughout the trail, especially beyond Bedni Bugyal and the base camp. It's best to inform family in advance and carry a satellite phone or use the operator’s communication system for emergencies.
The food is nutritious and designed to support high-altitude energy needs. Expect simple, hot meals like khichdi, rice, dal, chapati, vegetables, and soups. Breakfasts include porridge, eggs, bread, and tea. Energy bars and dry fruits are usually provided. Meals are vegetarian, and cooked fresh by the expedition support crew.
If a participant shows signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), they are immediately moved to lower altitude and monitored. Oxygen cylinders, basic first aid, and medications like Diamox are carried. Safety is prioritized over summit attempts, and decisions are made by the trek leader or expedition doctor if present.
Yes, mules or porters are available to carry the bulk of your gear up to a certain altitude (usually till Base Camp). However, you’re expected to carry a daypack with essentials like water, snacks, a jacket, and personal items. This arrangement allows you to trek more comfortably and avoid overexertion.
Absolutely! Solo trekkers often join organized expeditions, becoming part of a larger team. It’s a great way to meet like-minded adventurers while staying safe under the guidance of experienced trek leaders. However, solo trekking without a team is not advisable due to the remote terrain and technical nature of the peak.
Technical mountaineering gear is a must. This includes crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, gaiters, snow boots, and carabiners. Personal gear includes thermal clothing, a down jacket, trekking shoes, gloves, and sunglasses. Many operators provide or rent technical gear, but personal clothing and footwear should be high quality and weather-proof.
Yes, you can join the trek to Nanda Ghunti Peak. The trip’s difficulty level is moderate and can be attained without someone’s support. Wear robust footwear, and comfortable clothes, and maintain basic fitness to complete the trek.
