One Day Trip from Bangalore

1. Nandi Hills:

Nandi Hills was developed by the Ganga Dynasty in the 11th century. It was also used by Tipu Sultan as a summer retreat. Nandidurga was regarded to be impregnable and storming by the army of Cornwallis on 19 October 1791 was one of the most noted incidents of the first war against Tipu Sultan of Mysore. A description of the siege is given in Browne's History of Scotland and the records of the 71st Highlanders. It later became a retreat for British Raj officials during the hot season. Francis Cunningham constructed the summer home here for Sir Mark Cubbon.

The climate at the top of the hill made it of interest to horticulturists. Several species of plant were introduced into an experimental garden. Firminger's manual notes that several species of Anona were grown in this garden and also notes the peculiarity of Hypericum mysorense. Potato cultivation was first introduced in the neighbourhood of Bangalore by Colonel Cuppage and continued by the botanist Benjamin Heyne. Heyne brought seeds from St. Helena, and these grew well enough that they were supplied in Madras and preferred to those obtained from Bengal. In 1860, tea plants were tried on Nandi Hills by Hugh Cleghorn.

There are many stories about the origin of the name Nandi Hills. During the Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Anandagiri meaning The Hill of Happiness. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hills resemble a sleeping bull. Another theory holds that the hill gets its name from an ancient, 1300-year-old, Dravidian-style temple, and for the Nandi (bull), statue situated on this hill.

WHY IS NANDI HILLS FAMOUS FOR:

Nandi Hills is a trekking destination for the beginners and intermediate levels. Treks here are available on a staircase-based trekking path, starting near Sultanpet village. As of March 2022, the visitors need prior District administration passes to visit Nandi hills on weekends to control parking and crowd in the hill station. The parking of 1,000 two-wheelers and 300 light motor vehicles is allowed in the hill station. Passes can be booked at the Ticket counter at the base of the hill station or through the KSTDC website. Earlier Nandi Hills was closed due to Covid restrictions.

The flora of the hills is typical of high hills. In the fort at the top, many of the big trees are planted exotics like Eucalyptus and the undergrowth is composed of Coffea arabica with some native species. The forest acts as a substrate for cloud condensation, and every morning, the trees are drenched with water. This provides a habitat for many moist forest species of plants and animals.

The hills are very rich in birdlife making it a popular location for birdwatchers and bird photographers. The evergreen forest patch on top of the hill is a favoured wintering location for many migrant species of warblers, flycatchers and thrushes. The forest patch is also home to a relict population of the Nilgiri woodpigeon. A breeding pair of shaheen falcon, the resident race of the peregrine falcon is also often seen at the Nandi Hills. The Malabar whistling thrush, Uropeltid snakes and pill millipedes, which are otherwise known only from the Western Ghats ranges, are also found here. The hill slopes are the home of the yellow-throated bulbul, a species endemic to the hills of peninsular India.

This hill fort is also known as Channarayana Fort. Located at a place called Tumkur in the Karnataka region of India, this fortress sits atop a hillock and is a remarkable site both by virtue of its historical importance and its scenic beauty. With its rugged terrain and beautiful surroundings, the fort has made quite a high up as a very popular destination for trekking and history enthusiasts alike. The history of Channarayana Durga is highly interlinked with the medieval and early modern history of Karnataka. Not much has been known of its origins, but it is supposed to have been built or developed during the 16th or 17th century. It is strategically important because of its location along the trade routes connecting the Deccan Plateau to southern parts of India. A defence point to the local rulers was the fort, which was used to protect against invasion and attacks.

The fort was dated unknown, however, the history shows that the fort comes under different regional dynasties such as the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Marathas. Believed that the fort came under the local chief Channarayana, who named the fort after him. According to sayings, Channarayana was a commander who served in this region in the Vijayanagara Empire from the 14th to 16th century. Probably, this fort used to function as a military outpost and also was a stronghold protecting the southern territories of the empire in its regime.

The most striking historical feature of Channarayana Durga is that it used to be a local governance place. Since this is an indestructible hill fort, the powers ruling the place made reasonable efforts to ensure that their chiefs, commanders, and their subordinates were safe there. Channarayana Durga did not have a crucial battle or siege in its historical periods. Therefore, during the time of siege, other fortresses in the state were damaged, but this historical location was in good health. The architecture of Channarayana Durga is quite typical of the hill forts built during the medieval period in southern India. The fort, as such, is basically made using the available local materials including stone and granite. Although it is not as big as some of the other large forts present in the same region, it is strategically located and designed, making it one of the prime examples of hill fort architecture.

Defence of the Fort: The fort has natural barriers with the features of steep slopes rocky outcrops and man-made fortifications. Large stone blocks are used in the making of the walls of the fort, and there are a number of gates that regulate entry into the fort. The largest entrance is flanked by robust walls, leading to a number of narrow pathways that direct people to the location of the fort. Currently, Channarayana Durga is an important destination for trekking. The climb to the fort is fairly arduous and rewarding. The road to the summit is of stone steps on rough paths with heavy undergrowth and even steps going up to the top. The trek would be around 1.5 to 2 hours of actual trekking based on one's speed, and it will suit the individual who likes activities in the open air and moderately fit ones. When they reach the top, tourists get marvellous views. The countryside is composed of a series of hills, forests, and fields; hence, it is very serene as well as picturesquely beautiful. The fort itself is impressive even in its ruined state, and to go through the ruins of the fortifications, temples, and water tanks makes a good visit.

Channarayana Durga is the epitome of a historical monument of architectural ingenuity from this region and contains their cultural heritage. This strategically and historically significant location has made it very important for Karnataka's history. Today, it stands as a favourite destination for adventure-seekers, history lovers, and those who want to feel connected with the past in the beauty of nature. Be it trekking to the top or just walking through the leftovers of the walls, Channarayana Durga promises an experience so unique that it weaves adventure with history and spirituality all at one location. This is also one of the known trekking places near Bangalore, and you can visit it during the day and at night. One of the adventurous things you can do at Channarayadurga is you can undertake a trek on the trail up the hill on a night of full moon. The display of natural beauty around you at the top of the mountain will be an enchantment to cherish!

According to the records, the fort is said to be constructed in the 17th century by the local ruler Channaraya Nayaka; although it is also dated with Cholas, Vijayanagara Empire, and the Marathas. There is a small temple of Lord Shiva at the top which adds to the site's religious and cultural values. The trek to the fort is very much in vogue among adventure-seekers as well as the trekkers. It is a moderate climb with rocky terrain, so it is enjoyed by those seeking an adventure more towards the natural world. Dense forests cover the hill on which the fort was constructed. Along with flora, there is also fauna. Photographers and natural walkers can enjoy great scenes from atop the fort.

Besides the Shiva temple, the fort area has different inscriptions and stone carvings that hold archaeological interest. Channaraya Durga is a location that would garner everyone's interest for those who would love to explore history, architecture or nature together. It is the best place for history fans and adventure seekers as well.

It is approximately 100 kilometres from Bengaluru and can aptly be stated to be as much an adventure destination as well as a place for peace. And so is Bheemeshwari - the most influential eco-tourism centre in South India, filled with luxuriant forests and the Cauvery River that flows through the banks.

History of Bheemeshwari:

Bheemeshwari is much connected to Indian mythology, especially to Mahabharata. It is one of the biggest epics in Hindu literature. According to Mahabharata, the five brothers of Pandav, during their exile for 13 years, moved through various regions. According to some people, Bheema, the strongest of these five brothers, is said to have passed his period in this area. This name "Bheemeshwari" comes, people believe, because he came to this place.

Another mythological association of the river Cauvery flows through Bheemeshwari. This river has remained sacred for thousands of years in Hinduism. Sacredness is talked about by the temple and rituals on the bank, but legends of this river add to the richness of the cultural heritage of the area. Bheemeshwari was once an excellent Cauvery River valley confluence of agriculture and trade activities at the heart of Karnataka. Such fertile lands have been brought under the influence of various South Indian dynasties such as Gangas, Cholas, Hoysalas, and the Vijayanagara Empire. Each of them has left their mark in the region.

Bheemeshwari forests, with their rich bio-diversity, had already turned out to be a hunting ground for British officials and for the local royalties. Here, the locales had seen plentiful tigers, leopards, and elephants, and thus the place was in great demand by game hunters. These later declined toward the end of the colonial rules as conservation came to the forefront of importance.

Temples and Rituals

The temples of local deities and the major gods Shiva and Vishnu have reflected the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara kings. Here, the rituals are performed mainly around the Cauvery River which remained unchanged for centuries and preserved a rich cultural heritage.

Cauvery River

Cauvery River has been in the middle of this region's history and culture, being the lifeline of Bheemeshwari. It is considered sacred in the Hindu tradition, to which several fairs and rituals are attached. The Kaveri Sankramana festival takes place annually and attracts thousands of people to perform some religious rituals on the river banks.

Best Time to Visit:

Visitation during the winters, from October to February would be ideal for a visit to Bheemeshwari. The climate, of course, is very good between 15° and 25°C, thus supporting trekking, fishing or wildlife trips. Along with the luscious greens and the Cauvery river flowing, goes much to compliment this.

It becomes pretty hot during the period of March to May, with the peak level reaching 35°C, though during the morning and evening periods, it cools down. It happens to be a pretty good time for fishing and some other river games related to the water, etc.

Very heavy falls are witnessed during the monsoon seasons that fall between June and September. This region turns out to be a complete green paradise. The falls near the Cauvery River get filled with rain, but these falls turn out to be beautiful and peaceful. Trekking is not carried out since the trails are quite slick.

Activities:

Fishing and Angling

Bheemeshwari is famous for Mahseer fishing, and anglers from all over the world come here. It is one of the very few places where one can find this game fish. Fishing here at Bheemeshwari is a fun affair free from environmental pollutants as it has a strict catch-and-release policy for maintaining the species. The visitors could enjoy the thrill of catching the elusive Mahseer amidst the soothing beauty of the river.

Coracle Rides

The most exclusive and delightful experience in Bheemeshwari is the coracle ride up the Cauvery River. Traditional circular boats present one such great opportunity to go through the waters and provide panoramic views of the surroundings, which are plush green. The coracle ride often goes along with bird spotting and with laced sporadic glimpses of wild animals along the riverbanks. The coracle glides gently along accompanied by lulling sounds of rivers. It's an unforgettable experience.

Wildlife Observation and Birdwatching

Bheemeshwari lies at the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. The flora and fauna are pretty diversified in this region. Several species, including elephants, wild boars, leopards, and deers, can be seen and occasionally even the smooth-coated otters. But it shall truly be a wonder for bird enthusiasts as it accommodates almost over 200 species of birds recorded. Among the other regular visitors, kingfishers and fish eagles, painted storks, and spot-billed pelicans must be the most noted. It is definitely the best time for birdwatching if the sun rises early in the morning or sets late in the evening and gives a window to watch some of the avian beauties of nature in their own habitat.

Among the major landmarks of Karnataka are found precisely over the birthplace of one of the great Mysore kings, Tipu Sultan. This fort is not much explored like other forts in India, but this one holds much in terms of historical worth and architectural value. It has witnessed the ages of many rulers, wars, and changes that bring this monument to Karnataka's treasury. Devanahalli Fort was first constructed by the Mysore Sultanate in the 16th century. It passed through many structural and ownership changes in the course of centuries. This construction surmised would point to existence since the 1500s when it was under construction by the local chieftain, Malla Baire Gowda. As one of the key bastions of the Gowda family and, of course, a location of strategic importance, would surely add to its case for being there. It stood on a mound from which it undoubtedly viewed all the plains it surrounded and this gave it some military advantage too.

But its historical value is more and more intense because the hero, of course, that was used is Tipu Sultan himself. He was born here on this site of Devanahalli in the year 1751. Such a birthplace carried greater repute, and usually, such a fort is associated with the legend brought during his reign and war acumen. Although Tipu Sultan, too, faced his share of battles with the British East India Company during his period, the early life and relations of the ruler are still visible clearly in the fort of Devanahalli. Later, it is passed on to several other rulers-of course, here come the colonial rulers-like British.

The fort itself is an excellent example of military architecture during the Medieval period and reflects styles and techniques prevalent during that time. It is mainly made up of stone with thick walls, bastions, and gates to protect against invasion. The most salient feature of the architectural style of the fort is its fortified enclosure. It surrounded the main area with seven bastions mounted on cannons. Bastions enable the defenders to see what is happening around them better, but with this ability, they would be able to detect possible threats quickly. The entrances to the fort, too, deserve a mention. Several gates are there in the fort but the main entrance is still quite well-preserved. Arched openings punctuate the walls of the fort which have been strategically placed to offer defense and surveillance. Security and strategic planning are reflected in the design, as moats and watch towers have been strategically placed along the perimeter.

This makes the fort one of the main facets of life around Tipu Sultan's lifetime. He was born in 1751 in Devanahalli. Birth is one of the chief major milestones for any human life, but most of their lifetime is spent not living in Devanahalli. Not much is made of his personal, direct involvement since he cared more for Srirangapatna and his battles against the British, but in a cultural-historical sense, it gives credence to the location through its connections with Tipu Sultan. He earned the sobriquet Tiger of Mysore for his stern opposition against British imperialism. He popularized and earned recognition through his militant campaigns against the East India Company during the late 18th century. The fort at Devanahalli speaks about the early years and later times during his lifetime as a reminder to all the struggles. It is further said that the fort has a great deal of affinity with Tipu Sultan's family. His father, Sultan Hyder Ali, had a military camp at Devanahalli and had this fort as the strategic base for his military operations. Though the whole of his adult life he spent elsewhere, the town and the fort have a strong affinity to his childhood and birth.

Other Things to See in and around Devanahalli

The fort, of course, is one of the main things to see in Devanahalli. However, there are still attractions actually within the town itself. One example is the Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple, another of the oldest temples in the wider area. It dates back to about the same era that Nandi Hills first began being used for sacrificial ritualistic purposes. The buildings are testimonials to a highly revered religious past. Architecture and carving made this particular temple quite very important in historical times. Nandi Hills is another very popular place, a very famous hill station, which lies 10 km from the city. This is a place of great sceneries, has a pleasant climate, and is a favourite spot to trek, hike, or as a weekend getaway destination. Nandi Temple atop this hill station, devoted to Lord Shiva, is also a special place of pilgrimage among locals.

Both human and natural factors can be quoted to contribute to the degradation of the fort over time. Karnataka State Government has also taken very active steps toward restoring and preserving the place with the rising interest of the historians, archaeologists, and tourist visits that includes cleaning up the site, repairing structures which have been damaged, and making it accessible to the visitors. One of the grand attractions is school trips and other planning explorers of history in the area. Devanahalli Fort is, in reality, a peep into medieval times, sending tourists right back into it. One can walk upon a stone path and just see what survives of the bastions and watchtowers and be a part of that which has long gone by. The place is pretty cool for the history lover, photographer, and all other persons who wish to gaze upon Karnataka's rich tapestry of history. The fort remains open throughout the year, but always advisable to visit during the cool months of October to March, and then he can explore the whole place. A guide is also recommended for understanding the importance of various features of the fort and for knowing more about its historical importance.

8. Mekedatu

Mekedatu is also popularly known as "Goat's Leap" in Kanataka and is a picture postcard and culturally important spot situated in the south of India, with the state of Karnataka by its side. Situated in the Ramanagaram district, this lies approximately 40 km to the south of Bengaluru, the Karnataka capital. Bekal is famous for its natural beauty but provides only breathtaking views of the River Cauvery snaking through rocky gorges and dense forests. This is, besides its scenic appeal, of historical and religious importance, attracting both nature lovers and pilgrims alike in Karnataka.

Mekedatu occurs at a point where the River Cauvery cuts its gorge into a narrow pass, with rugged terrain dense forests in all directions and rolling hills. Dominating the landscape is the river's amazing path as it cuts through the rocky valleys, creating quite a mesmerizing contrast between the flowing water and steep cliffs. The name "Mekedatu," literally Kannada for "goat's leap," refers to an interesting legend about a goat that allegedly leapt from one side of the river to the other at this place.

The Cauvery River, serene and wild in this site, is known for clear water flowing from the gorge, surrounded by luxuriant greenery. This serene stretch of water is marked by various waterfalls and several streams to make it a paradise for photographers, nature and adventure enthusiasts. This landscape view of this place during monsoon months is awe-inspiring as the river flows with full tides when the forest comes alive in a new veil of foliage.

The region around this is a mixed one. It comes under the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, spread over the districts of Ramanagaram, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya. This is a rare sanctuary with many species of flora and fauna, including endangered species such as the Indian leopard, Bengal tiger, wild boar, several other species of deer, and even several species of birds, such as the white-rumped vulture, the painted stork, and so on.

These surroundings are dense with Indian teak, sandalwood, and bamboo trees and constitute the ecological diversity of the place. It automatically becomes a tourist attraction for eco-tourism as well as a nature walk whereby different visitors are able to find out the fauna and flora in their natural settings. The basic efforts of both the state governments and wildlife organizations toward the maintenance of the regional area have, therefore, been foundational within the maintenance of the ecological equilibrium.

this place holds religious and mythological importance for the people of Karnataka and other surrounding regions. As per popular Hindu lore, the name "Mekedatu" originates from a great myth. Long, long ago, it is believed that god Rama, accompanied by his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, was travelling towards Lanka through the forests when Sita became thirsty and asked for water. Rama shot an arrow into the river, and the water that burst forth created a narrow passage, which is said to have been the site of the river crossing here. Another origin for the name "Mekedatu" was said to have originated from the leap of a goat that was said to have jumped over the narrow passage.

This has attracted attention as a future site for large-scale development. The Karnataka government has a plan for a Mekedatu Reservoir project involving the construction of a dam on the Cauvery River to improve water supply and irrigation to the regions around it. Mixed reactions have greeted the project. Some argue that it is likely to provide better irrigation, drinking water, and power generation for the local people. Environmental enthusiasts and wildlife experts have raised apprehensions about the potential harm it may cause to the ecosystem, especially to the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary and the surrounding forests.

A perfect place of nature, spirit, and adventure, this is an abode for any traveller. Either the picturesque views of the river, richness in biodiversity, or the interesting legend about the place, this is that serene haven from the rigours of city life. It forms an integral part of the natural and cultural landscape of Karnataka as it attracts tourists due to its beauty, in terms of the religious significance it holds, and the scope for adventure tourism. Sustainability and sustainable development are an integral part of ensuring that this uniqueness is not lost through the vagaries of time and the future generations, however.

This is also one of the noted trekking places around bangalore which can be visited both in daylight and night also. Among the adventurous things you could do here is to undertake a trek on the trail up the hill in a night of full moon. From atop the mountain, the display of natural beauty surrounding you will become an enchantment to cherish! this place offers scenery of the Cauvery River that flows through a gorge, surrounded by rocky hills and dense green vegetation. The name is derived from a legend where a goat is said to have leapt across the gorge, and this place is noted for its dramatic as well as picturesque landscape.

This falls under the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, a habitat for the wildlife of the state, including the tigers, leopards, wild boars, deer, and many other birds. It is said in the mythological legend attached to this place that Lord Rama had himself constructed the narrow passage for the river. There are trekking trails, nature walks, and bird-watching trails open here for adventure enthusiasts as well as for wildlife photographers. The river is facilitated with coracle rides and seasonal rafting in the tranquil stretches. The best time to visit the place is during the post-monsoon months, i.e., from October to March, as the climate seems to be pleasant and river flows are the best. The Karnataka government has been planning to constitute a new reservoir called the Mekedatu Reservoir, which would increase the supply of water and even help in irrigation. This is a very pristine location for people looking for a silent retreat from the hustle-bustle life of the city. One can see peacefulness and serenity in this place with fabulous scenery and natural beauty.

9. Hogenakkal falls

The best time to visit Hogenakkal Waterfalls is between October and March. It does not get too hot during these months. It is a comfortable time for tourist activities. The temperatures range between 15°C and 30°C during these months and are thus good for sightseeing and other outdoor excursions. Cool-weather permits boating, trekking, and picnicking. It is peak tourist season, hence more facilities available to the visitors.

Other best time for the monsoon is June to September when one can witness the full grandeur of waterfalls. Such heavy falls will establish a high flow of water; therefore, the look of these waterfalls must be majestic and eye-catching. Falling of water gives an atmosphere of misty mystery in the surroundings. This season is really dangerous for cruising, and sometimes even endangers the activities being carried out in boating. A number of routes and activities will be shut down because of the amount of water.

Summers from April to June aren't so great because it goes up to 40°C. Although it would be lesser water flow, the falls wouldn't be dramatic during the time of monsoons, it would attract fewer tourists there and peaceful to spend some quality time. It may be the perfect time when the summer season falls. It would be somewhat less crowded if one needs solitary time and can tolerate a little hot temperature. Hence, October to March months are considered best for visiting Hogenakkal. Yet, if someone intends to view this destination at its very glory, even the rainy season has some special surprises up its sleeve. Boating at Hogenakkal Waterfalls is perhaps the most adventurous experience a tourist can enjoy here. Here, he gets the chance to tread close to roaring waterfalls, cross the Kaveri River and enjoy the spectacular natural beauty pervading this region. There are two rides here - a traditional coracle ride and a speed boat ride, which gives two totally different views of the falls.

Coracle Boat Ride

Perhaps the most direct experience among many happening at Hogenakkal is the coracle boat rides. They are the locally traditional round boats made of bamboo and leaves of palm trees. These fisherfolk gently steer the boat through the waves of the turbulent river, whose currents are so powerful and strong. End. The boat picks up speed as you approach the falls. The mist of the waterfall encircles you. It thereby makes the air magical. It carries people towards falls, such that one manages to view a fantastic splashing of waters towards stones. Closeness to falls is an exciting experience since cascaded sounds of water are filled into the air.

It seems that the most exciting one is the coracle ride, so you are taken close and close enough, whereby the boatman skillfully manoeuvres his boat close to the falls, giving you an impression of sitting a few feet away from the impact zone of the water. Sometimes, the mist from the falls can create such an impression as if in a dream.

Speed Boat Ride

More adrenaline is faced by those people who love such a kind of experience while on this speed boat ride. These kinds of boats run at a great speed and wondrously against the coracles. The feeling of racing the river at that height with the waterfalls of the surroundings provides something different. It will take them approximately anywhere between 15 to 20 minutes, and visitors will find a thrillingly yet relatively safe way in which to navigate through the rapids of the river and its related sceneries.

The speed boat will take you even deeper into the river further distance, and this gives other perspectives about how the falls should look. The splashing of the waters with the passage of the rush boat through the currents only increases in adventure, which is ideal for adventure lovers.

Boating Season

There is boating until March that would be safer by the navigational levels while both the weather, as well as the outdoor situation, are a lot easier to be with, and boating is suspended due to the onset of monsoons, around June until September, due to the very peak and the dangerous waters; the turbulent currents of this river, when it's into the monsoons, made its boating activities unsafe around this area so I had to alter it if one ever wants to explore these rides.

The experience of boating at Hogenakkal is such that it can't be ignored in a trip to this location. The ride in the coracle is great because of the silent experience of the real thing. Though the ride in the speedboat is excellent for one who wants to experience some adventure. Anyways, the beauty of the falls and beautiful nature has left everyone with good memories.

Trekking and Activities at Hogenakkal

Other than boating, there are a lot of things that the tourist from Hogenakkal can engage in. For instance, such activities include immersion experiences in natural beauty. Activities such as, for example, trekking apart from boating and others. People visit to view and live in the natural ambience and take a trek into the surrounding forest and rocky surface. Such facilities offer different treks for the amusement of trekkers.

Trekking Trails

Dense forests surround Hogenakkal, offer fantastic treks, and thus have become an attraction that must be visited. Not very demanding in terms of treks, they take one through some fantastic stretches of nature, and the beauty of falls, as well as the Kaveri River, can easily be beheld from vantage points en route. Such treks would be full of waterfalls and riverbank sceneries while trekking deep into forests in such an exquisite setting would certainly help any nature lover find the much needed seclusion in solitude.

The best time to trek Hogenakkal is during the months from October to March because it has a cooler climate and is relatively more pleasant. Trekking in the rainy season is dangerous because the tracks are slippery, and the water levels are high; therefore, one better not trek during the rainy season.

Fishing and Photography

Hogenakkal is a good fishing area. One can see local fishermen throwing their nets in the river. Not something that the tourists in general would want to do, some might even want to sit and watch or even join the locals in fishing. Photography is another pretty hobby; actually, there are just such miracles of opportunities to get some simply fantastic shots there at the waterfall and landscapes as well, especially in the morning or evening hours. light is simply marvelous.

14. Ghati Subrahmanya:

Ghati Subrahmanya is believed to be a place connected to the mythological childhood life of Kartikeya. According to the legend, it is said that even Lord Subrahmanya took shelter here when he was looking for asylum during his childhood as well as after finding asylum in Ghati Hills, while he was searching for shelter. It is said, by the myth that this was also constructed as a temple or as a memorial for Lord Subrahmanya as he had murdered the Asura named Tarakasura. Another very interesting aspect is the association of the temple with the serpent. It is often depicted with a serpent or Vasuki, the king of serpents, a sign of his power to vanquish evil and bring peace to his devotees. The temple is indeed considered a sacred place where people do prayers to protect themselves against the effects of Naga Dosha (serpent afflictions) and other tough situations of life.

The temple is basically built of granite stones, and because of the attack of heavy rains over so many decades, it seems to look like it's a structure that has existed for thousands of years. When one enters the temple, he or she is welcomed by the gateway tower called Raya Gopura, and this is one of the characteristic architectural designs of the typical designs found in the Dravidian temples. Here, scallops and carvings of a variety of gods and other fables are present on the entrance gateway. Inside the temple, there lies a sanctum called garbhagriha, in which the chief deity, Lord Subrahmanya, sits. The deity is depicted here in an unusual form because, besides traditional attributes like Spear Vel, he is also identified by a serpent coiled around him. The temple is highly renowned for serpent iconography. Serpent idols are arranged everywhere around the sanctum and temple premises as Lord Subrahmanya is often in close relation with serpents. There are mini sanctums of other gods, too, like Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu, where devotees can pay obeisance to them. Designing of this temple is serenely divine, which makes a human introspective and worshipful.

Ghati Subrahmanya Temple is essentially the temple dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for devotees who seek divine blessings in solving marital problems and serpent doshas. The centre for devotees due to its reputation for healing ailments and removing obstacles from life. One of the major events is Karthika Masa, which falls out as a special month in the Hindu calendar, bringing in huge crowds. In that one month, all devotees within the area throng in to pay their obeisance by offering prayers apart from taking part in special poojas and homes being conducted in the sanctum sanctorum as tributes to Lord Subrahmanya. The other important rite performed here is Naga Pratishtha or Serpent Ritual. Devotees come here to seek deliverance from all the ill effects caused by the Naga Dosha. It is said that, by praying here, a devotee removes this serpent's curse affliction in his life.

The Ghati Subrahmanya Temple conducts an annual festival that is very significant spiritually as well as culturally. The festival attracts devotees from all over Karnataka as well as other places coming to the temple to see the grand celebration and other rites conducted in the temple to pay obeisance to Lord Subrahmanya. In this respect, Shashti also coincides with the birthday day of Lord Subrahmanya. This is a season of special processions - when the god is taken in a ceremonial car and moved about the temple compounds. The devotees chant devotional songs and say mantras as well as enact rituals to draw in the presence of the god. There was that air of devotion, gaiety, as well as an atmosphere of holiness. It is in the foothills of Ghati Hills-a name that has come to be synonymous with nature. Its heavy cover of greenery and hills, along with its serene atmosphere, have made it the perfect amalgamation for spiritual and nature-based experiences. The region is well-wooded by forests, and this sacred temple is located in the marvellous, serene landscape of a picturesque hill. It can avail the chance to immerse in the splendour of the natural scenery of hills. This is the reason behind the attraction to visit such a place.

Ghati Subrahmanya Temple is not only a place of prayer but also epitomizes the epitome of spirit and history along with natural beauty. That is why it has become an important centre of pilgrimage for devotees who hope to obtain divine intervention in all walks of life. Whether it is spiritual, scenic beauty, or cultural practices, the Ghati Subrahmanya Temple makes for a unique and fulfilling experience for everyone. The combination of mythology, faith, and peaceful landscape reveals the destination in Ghati Subrahmanya temple for anyone who visits this place for its rich legacy as well as natural treasure trove.

Mekedatu Falls River: Cauvery

About Mekedatu One-Day Trip :

Mekedatu is a location along Kaveri on the border of Chamarajanagar and Ramanagara Districts. From this point, about 3.5 kilometres downstream, the river Kaveri flows through a deep and narrow gorge. Mekedatu means 'goat's leap.' in Kannada. It is said that a goat being chased by a tiger made a desperate attempt to save its life by leaping from one side of the gorge and managed to cross over the raging river below, whereas the tiger did not attempt to replicate this feat and abandoned the chase. At Mekedaatu, the Kaveri runs through a deep, narrow ravine of hard granite rock. More than 150 meters wide at the confluence (at Sangama), the river flows through the hardly 10-meter-wide gorge at Mekedatu. This place is en route to Mekedatu. Only a few people visit this place, and most go by bus. If people go on foot from Sangama, this place wouldn't be that hard to spot. Here, water is less pleasant than in a place, thus making it much safer. The best time to visit this place is during monsoon season. The vegetation around the hills is at its greenest and is a real treat to the eye. There will be less water in the summer, and visitors can easily walk inside the river. In the rainy season, there will be more water with heavy flow. Both the seasons are enjoyable differently.

It divides the two districts of Chamarajanagar and Mandya as it meanders through the uneven terrain of the Deccan Plateau. Two groups of waterfalls were formed a few kilometres apart from each other. As a result, the streams created the island of Shivanasamudra in between. The first group of falls is called Gaganachukki. The second group to the south-west is called Barachukki Falls. About Bidarakatte Day Trek:

Close to the Savanadurga trek is the Bidarakatte Trek, which starts from the Kempegowda tree park and, following an incline, reaches the top of the hill at Doddarebylu. Along the path, one can enjoy the vegetation, mainly small trees to stunted growth, mainly bushy and interspersed with rocks. Among many myriad life forms keeping company to the trekker is the Rock Agama, and its many hues depend on the season, whether it is the breeding season or not. Breeding season indicates vivid colours. The monsoon is an amazing time to do this trek, with the greenery dominating the landscape, and for a while, the rocks take the backstage. Encountering butterflies and beetles is a way of life on the trek trail. What makes this trek more interesting is the presence of a historic old Fort, and the reminisces of the old walled city in its precincts. The aura is heightened more with an old temple along the trail. Interesting birds like the Endangered Yellow Throated Bulbul, the Sirkeer Malkoha, and many more birds make it an interesting bird trail.
